Frank McCourt

Had a conversation with my radiologist the other day and discovered she had gone to Stuyvesant High School in NYC and had taken a creative writing course with Frank McCourt, the writer of “Angela’s Ashes,” a Pulitzer Prize winning autobiographical novel.

She related an interesting vignette about her beloved teacher. In his first class with her, he told all the students that, if they wanted, they did not have to attend his class … go sit in the library and study and he would award them a 95. Only one student did … surely to his/her regret.

He also told this future doctor that she should become a creative writer. Fortunately she didn’t listen to his advice.

More on him, likely later …

STAND UP FOR FRANK McCOURT (RIP)!
