The American political system favors incumbents … mainly due to a natural voter aversion to upstarts’ rhetoric vis-a-vis performance. In other words, trusting what untested aspirants say takes a backseat to what existing office holders have done … however substandard.
If two untested politicians are running against each other in a relatively neutral district, then sincerity and promises might carry the day …. good looks, and boxes-checked also helps.
Which leaves us to comment on what happens when two incumbents run against each other … like Biden vs. Trump … albeit a quire rare circumstance.
Here, it seems to me that this circumstance causes people to completely ignore the two incumbents s rhetoric and vote entirely based upon how they goverrned while in office.
Which is why Donald Trump is the likely winner in November … and why Democrats are using lawfare to try to subvert this unpleasant result.
And maybe a little voter fraud …
STAND UP FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE!
