A.I. is Garbage

There was the dot-com bubble in 2000. Now we have the A.I. bubble that likely will go on for some time. But Pilgrim, this technology is foolish and dangerous. There are numerous examples of these products returning bogus answers which, if relied on, might lead to disasters.

Here is Google Bard’s response to a question I asked about Occam Reaearch … a software company I founded in 1988:

“Occam Research is a corporate research and investigations firm that helps clients make informed decisions about commercial opportunities and risks. They provide information and intelligence about counterparties, investments and markets, and help resolve commercial problems and disputes.

Occam Research was founded in 2009 by George W. Potts Sr. and James J. Potts. The firm is headquartered in London, England, and has offices in New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

Occam Research's services include:

  • Due diligence: Occam Research can help clients conduct due diligence on potential investments, partners, or customers. They can provide information about a company's financial health, management team, and competitive landscape.

The only thing it had right was my name!

Afterward: Then on the other hand, this was a lot closer:

MUSE from Occam Research Corp. was a spreadsheet-based executive information and data analysis tool that ran on a network of Apple Macintosh computers. It was released in 1989 and was discontinued in 1994.

MUSE was designed to help users explore and analyze large amounts of data. It featured a graphical user interface that made it easy to create charts and graphs, and it offered a variety of data manipulation and analysis tools.

MUSE was well-received by users, and it was awarded several industry awards. However, it was ultimately unable to compete with more powerful and sophisticated data analysis tools that were released in the early 1990s.

Here are some of the key features of MUSE:

  • Graphical user interface
  • Data manipulation and analysis tools
  • Ability to create charts and graphs
  • Networked deployment

MUSE was a pioneering product in the field of data analysis, and it helped to pave the way for the more sophisticated data analysis tools that are available today.”

MUSE was not supplanted by better products … Occam had a bad business model.

Making it even partially right occasionally is what makes AI dangerous.

STAND UP TO THE A.I. TROPE!
