Possible AI Problems

Having played in this sandbox before, I see the following potential problems with developing AI applications that are supposed to have an unfailing aptitude:

- Proper order of mathematical and logical  operations

- Number type confusions

- Keeping track of significant digits after calculations … and rounding errors

- Chemistry and radiation math

- Pronoun confusions

- Currency conversions

- Fiscal vs. calander year reconciliations

- Physics calculations

- Gaming of AI algorithms

- Astronomical calculations

- Validity of referenced information

- Units conversions … particularly between different worldwide or historic units systems

- Even though the referenced knowledge  base is huge … it is puny when compared to what it should be.

- Identifying semantic precedents — this, that, previous

- Words representing definite numbers — ream, bakers dozen, hertz, pair, home run, extra point touch, triad, quartet, octave, gold carats (but not diamond carats), marathon — being used in alien context

- Indefinite numbers or probabilities — some, many, parcel, teenager, tween, herd, handful, pinch, dose

- Infinity or infinite in mathematics

- Scaling mixups … particularly very large and very small ones … or scaling imbedded in unit’s names — megatons, kilograms, nanoseconds

- Sifting through thousands of possible answers

- Truly random numbers

- Sequencing of grammatical transformation rules

-  Time and date calculations … including daylight savings time anomalies … and leap year and leap second specifics

- Geographic location calculations

- Mixing up people’s names

- Multiple synonym chains

- Keeping up-to-date with changing vernaculars — medical, political, hip-hop, etc.

- Fractured syntax rules … ala Yoda in Star Wars

- Unusual regional or professional idioms

I confidently predict that AI developers have not … and probably will not resolve all these … and many other … possible conundrums.

So, dear reader, take a deep breath before you swallow all the claims surrounding this meme. How do I know this? Pilgrim, I have dealt with many of theses real-life gremlins before.
