Heads in the Sand
Democrats who listen only to left-leaning nerworks and read only liberal media are not just ostriches with their heads in the sand … but end up lecturing the desert.
In reality, ostriches don't bury their heads in the sand to avoid danger. Not only would they be unable to breathe. They can run 40 miles an hour for up to 10 miles to escape danger. Your metaphor requires the pilgrim to share the ultra right's cockeyed view of reality.
