Lithium is a Group 1 (Alkali) metal along with sodium, potassium, caesium, etc. The above experiment shows what happens when these metals are exposed to water.
Gasoline has no such reaction … whereas exposed lithium-ion batteries do.
STAND UP FR GASOLINE!
Gasoline in cars is a horror show. If it leaks, it makes a volatile sheen on the water. If the water gets into the tank, you need to drain the tank. If the water got passed through the carburation and cylinders, they all need to be rebuilt. And to your point, the battery likely shorted itself into uselessness. I bet you can get some nice cars for parts on Sanibel Island.
