Obvious Truth

In the early 1950s, when I was a teenager in Alexandria, VA … attending George Washington High School … there was a rifle range in the basement! Students in the gun club would bring their rifles to school to target practice in the school after hours.

And no deranged student shot up our school … even though we had some misfits.

What has changed?

Guns are still guns even if they are more scary looking. And children are still children even though many more come from broken homes.

So why do we have teenage mass shootings in schools and elsewhere?

To me Pilgrim, the answer is in our society … driven by an air of permissiveness leading to lax morality and celebrating aberrant behavior.

Congress and our president can wring their hands and invoke God over the slaughter of our children. But until we reverse the moral decline of our society, we will not fix things.

And this reversal will not occur through the enactment of even a million new virtue-signaling laws. And perhaps our leaders might start by setting better examples?

STAND UP FOR MORALITY!

  1. There have been 678 shootings with casualties at elementary and secondary schools since 2000.
None of these have occurred in Massachusetts, yet. How do you square this with your theory that mass shootings are the results of moral decline: "permissiveness leading to lax morality and celebrating aberrant behavior." Just perhaps, strict gun laws have been effective?
