Nostalgia?

In my youth everyone had a coal furnace … remember the scenes in “A Christmas Story” … which were clunky, smelly and inefficient. You also had to feed them with anthracite coal from the ubiquitous coal bin (my grandfather kept chickens in his coal bin) and had to haul away the ashes to be picked up by a local service … which was a burden for houses without a strapping male.

Thus the term “haul her ashes” became synomous with doing a favor for … while having sex with … an unattached neighbor lady.

STAND UP fOR GAS FURNACES!
