The following (a little hard to read) table is a fairly up-to-date measure of Russia’s losses in Ukraine compared to those suffered in Afghanistan. The point is obviously to determine how much pain Russia is now suffering compared to what was enough to cause their Afghan retreat.

I would not believe any propaganda from either side. The problem is how can you tell which news is fake.
Justified skepticism. You might try to apply it more broadly.
Perfessor, you needn't worry about the breadth of my skepticism. I liberally apply skepticism to everything I see published here and other Fox echo chambers.
For example, it is simplistic to think that the comparison of militarry losses in Afghanistan 40 years ago under the Soviet Union to those pumped-up numbers reported by Ukrainian Generals would be useful in predicting future actions by the monomaniacal Putin.
How much skepticism have you applied to the Russia voting hoax, the Jan 6 insurrection, the Wuhan wet market, Biden’s closed border, climate change, etc.? Not much Pilgrim. I think we might call it selective skepticism.
If anything, I would think that Russia’s current population is even less tolerant of losses than their grandparents.
And, if Russian losses are grossly exaggerated, why have things not gone more smoothly
Not sure what you mean when you say "Russia voting hoax" The Mueller investigation resulted in numerous convictions/guilty-pleas of Trump lackeys and Russian nationals. Manafort, Flynn, Cohen, Stone, Gates... Trump pardoned Flynn, Manafort, Stone and Papadopoulos. That didn't add up to a hoax to my skeptical eyes.
I would agree with you about present day Russians being less willing to sacrifice, but they are shut-off from facts by Putin's crackdown. Hopefully, leaks will spread. My point was that the situation is not analogous. Thus the comparisons are meaningless. Apples-oranges.
I assume your final question is rhetorical, since it assumes a logical fallacy. Analogous to "They can put a man on the moon; why can't the make a zipper that doesn't jam?"
None of the convictions were about Russian collusion … process crimes and old money laundering in the Manafort and Cohen cases.
Au contrarie, I think that, through the fog of war, I can see Putin’s red face … both embarrassment and rage
