Pilgrim … how would you feel if our federal government used ham-handed (no pun intended) methods to force everyone to become vegetarians: more onerous regulations on meat producers, tax credits for only earring vegetables, restricting the financing of butchers and declaring meat a national health hazard?
Well, that is exactly equivalent to what it is doing to force Americans to drive EVs instead of internal combustion cars.
Afterthought: And carrots would be selling for $10 a pound … and you needed to plug them in every night to keep them fresh!

"Forced to drive an EV": buggom shpuggom.

ReplyDeleteYour griping takes the right technologies for comparison, but you do not take it far enough. Farmers used to plant the same crop in the same fields year after year until they tapped out the soil. Crop rotation taught them to use cover crops. They found that DDT and RoundUp killed bugs but that it also killed every bug, bird, and mammal (and caused cancer). Then they found that the chemical fertilizers were hugely helpful but wash into rivers and lakes to cause tremendous weed growth. Now genetic modifications to plants are improving yields and reducing spoilage.
ReplyDeleteBut the greenies are calling them “frakenfoods.” One can’t win these days …
ReplyDeleteBTW, Malthus said we were going to run out of food when the world’s population was 1/5th of what it is now.
Taking the other path, visit a soybean farm at harvest to observe the processing into food products. Then visit a largescale stockyard to see the look and aromas, and then see the slaughterhouse operations from the kill to the breakdown into food products and a dozen other barrels for hooves, lungs, heads, intestines, organs, and skins. Chances are you'll become a vegetarian.
