We went through this before Common sense to do what? Have a yard sale? Ship it all back to the manufacturer? Or American police forces?? Destroy it all? Or is just leave it all in the desert… Which is where it is. Don’t worry. The likelihood that the Taliban will be cruising across the Mexican border in that gear are zero. Or our allies within 500 miles who are… who?
Answered with typical liberal ridicule and cynicism. How about flying all the aircraft to Kuwait loaded with arms and ammunition … even some vehicles … and blowing up the rest. From there we might have given it to the Ukraine or Belarus? Sleepy Joe had 7 months to do something. He and Gen. Milley did nothing. Shameful!
Why do you have to berate my comments as liberal and as ridicule and cynicism? It is 2,000 miles from Bagram to Kuwait. Do the Kuwaitis want all that stuff. It is 2,400 miles from Bagram to Ukraine. If we did that, wouldn't it get Putin's attention as a challenge and an implicit US commitment? Belarus even further.
Keeping Bagram would then require a supporting force to maintain it and protect it. But why? We are out of the Middle East and Eastern Europe as we well should be.
Last time I looked, planes can fly 2,000 miles. Most evacuation flights went to Kuwait. If we had thought things through, Bagram could have been a Gitmo right next to China. Yes we needed to provide a secure 10 mile perimeter but I surmise it was doable.
By the way, why was all this equipment there in the first place? Why wasn’t it in the field with the Afghan defense forces? Or was this just part of our military-industrial 20-year scam?
But why? Do those countries want that stuff? And I don’t think it was all in showroom condition. I suspect that as the war was winding down the equipment was staged at Bagram. If we want an Asian command away from the Middle East why not our friends in Australia?

ReplyDeleteOr maybe just keeping Bagram AFB … even simpler. Is that common sense?

ReplyDeleteThat’s about as logical as voting for Biden.
