Erasing History

It seems evolving social norms periodically spawn good-for-nothing nihilists who feel compelled to show their contempt for past wrongs, real or imagined, by destroying any of their vestiges. These history-denying firebrands think that past monuments embody all the evil that current mores condemn ... therefore erasing them becomes a justifiable catharsis ... even though empty-headed ... like what we are currently seeing.

Knowing this trope, monument builders try to thwart future iconoclasts by building their tributes huge (Giza pyramids), high (Washington Monument) or beautiful (Mount Rushmore). Doesn’t always help ... view the above.
