At an Independence Day party yesterday I asked the following two questions to a group of nine mostly Democrats and a few Independents. Here are the revealing results:
- Who would like to eliminate ICE? Zero hands raised
- Who would like to have open borders? One hand raised (but he clarified that this meant everywhere in the world)
Hmm ... if these were the results in very liberal suburban Massachusetts, what does this suggest might be the outcome of November's midterm elections? (Unless, of course, the blue-staters do a U-turn between now and then? Nah ... the Dems likely will go further left ...)
So are those the only items on the midterm ballot? What about candidates and issues focused on the environment, education, gun control, fair trade, income equality, preservation of social security and Medicare, infrastructure enhancements, making agreements instead of empty deals, and oh yeah immigration. yes, retain ICE, build a giant wall from the military budget using military personnel.
ReplyDeleteFor the moment immigration seems at the top of the list ... although a trade war may just move up the ranks. Watch for Schumer to demagogue this soon.
DeleteI like the idea of using the Army Corps of Engineers ...
DeleteWhy would anyone want to eliminate ice? (How will we keep the drinks cold?) Aren't these really variants of the same question: Who thinks we need a sensible border policy? Enforcement of immigration law should not be using gestapo tactics.
ReplyDeleteSomething like Sarah Sander's treatment at the Red Hen?
DeleteShe was asked politely to leave, because no one wanted to wait on them in non violent protest to the idiotic border actions of the Trump admin. And she was told that the cheese plate was "on the house." Hardly gestapo.
DeleteYou are here spinning more than an Olympic figure skater ...
DeleteI heard what Den heard. All the spin came afterwards from commenters at the extremes.
