Circus, Circus

We all knew that it would eventually happen ... and it has. The Ringling Brothers circus has decided to phase out elephant acts from its performances ... see: AP Story. To me, this is another victory of the animal-rights loonies over nostalgia and tradition. Now all that will be left in the three rings under the tent will be clown cars, acrobats and prancing ponies ... with the prancing ponies unlikely to last too much longer.

I know that this is a stretch but somehow I can't wonder if this might be a symbolic act since the elephant represents the Republican party. Perchance, will Ringling Bros. also banish donkeys from their menageries? However, fortunately, this elephant phase out will not occur for three more years ... which would be after the next presidential election. By that time the GOP might find another mascot ... perhaps the bald eagle?
