No Reverse Gear
It seems that liberals like to drive without a reverse gear. A bill is now wending its way through the U.S. Senate once again extending unemployment benefits beyond 99 weeks. Although this bill is likely to be stopped in the House ... particularly if the Democrats cannot find spending offsets ... it will surely still become grist for the 2014 election mill. As too will the Democrats' attempt to increase the national minimum wage by almost three dollars from the current $7.25 ... see: Politico Story.
Now if our bettering unemployment rate is truly reflective of an improving U.S. economy, then it would seem that now might be the ideal time to cut back on such pork-barrel largess being doled out by our Washington lefty pols to their potential voters. Of course this is too much to ask ... we are talking about Democrat politicians after all. But if our figurative car-of-state can never back up, we most surly will eventually run headlong into a brick wall. Are the current sponsors of these social benefits not counting on being passengers when this occurs?
