There was this mean-looking AR-15 see that:
- was a loner on anti-psychotic drugs
- was publicly obsessed with other guns and explosives
- would kill squirrels and rabbits and drink their blood
- would capture neighborhood dogs and cats and hang them from trees
- would shoot out the windows of neighbors' garages, sheds and houses
- threatened to kill multiple high school classmates
- many classmates felt it was quite likely it would be a high-school shooter
- was expelled from high school for carrying ammunition to school in its backpack
- police were called to its house 39 times in one year
- posted on Facebook that it was going to stage a high school massacre "professionally"
- the FBI was twice warned that it, by name, was quite likely to kill multiple classmates at school
- finally went to its high school and killed 17 and wounded 15 more classmates

Did you ever see "Minority Report"? It presents the notion of pre-crime -- getting arrested and incarcerated because you are about to commit a crime. Rather like what the military does with 'detainees' for decades.
That contrasts with "High Noon" where the sheriff refuses to jail the gang, because people cannot be arrested and imprisoned without due process of law.
There's a balance point in between.
Did you see its defense attorney pit her arm around the AR-15 and expressed her sympathy for it during its inquest? I almost cried ...
Do we need to see an actual crime before we take action? I think not. Cruz had done enough bad stuff to get him stopped. It is the authorities there that have the blood on their hands. (Of course the AR-15 was also guilty ...)
You imply that the weapon is irrelevant if the attacker is of a murderous nature. But US is the only nation that has these large scale non-terrorist mass shootings. Logic might lead us to conclude that the easy access to assault weapons as a significant cause for the difference in deaths. Other countries have the same ratio of population with mental illness, but not the same rate of mass slaughter.
And Switzerland wants all its citizens to have guns ... yet it has no mass or even non-mass shootings. Please explain ...
Swiss have been downsizing their military, yet have mandatory service for males. Maybe the difference is the tight regulations, background checks, mandatory training? types of weapons? Or that Switzerland has mandatory health coverage for all, and disturbed individuals get treatment before they go postal.
Recent mass killings have pushed me to abandon my former position. I now advocate repeal and replace. Repeal the 2nd amendment and replace it with a contemporary expression of individuals' rights when it comes to hand guns and rifles to be used for sport or personal protection. (AR15's would not be on the Approved List)
That sounds like a well regulated militia. Where have heard that phrase before?
We the people need to get legislators to reinstate the AWB https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban. The 1994 law was sunsetted in 2004 and has been championed ever since. The law needs to be tightened up and set as permanent law.
What is more lethal? An AR-15 or a pump action shot gun? Or a 45 six shooter with a changeable chamber (or whatever it's called)? Guaranteed that. if this ban were installed, the gun grabbers would not stop until the 2nd Amendment was in ashes.
If repeal occurred, replace would never happen.
OK. I concede. We should a issue a gun to everyone over the age of 10 that they must keep on their person and loaded at all times. What could go wrong?
Reducto ad absurdum
Swiss downsizing standing Army. Citizen militia is intended to fight outside forces; most of the gun nuts in USA are intending to overthrow the oppressive government.
Sarcasm! Just like fearsome leader, don't just read my words, understand what I mean in my heart.
Seriously though... America has a problems with opiods and guns. But why? Why are we so neurotic and pained? Why do we have such great demand for caches of guns and numbing drugs?
You might suggest that if you went off the grid and off into the hills -- no news, no devices, no email, no adverts -- you would mellow out. You might have a .22 to pop varmints. A deer hunting rifle with a few rounds.
You would not get ads for solving your back tax problems, suing for mesothelioma, wet basements, puffy eyes and keister cream (actually the same product!), sore back, sore feet, and Rx drugs, drugs, drugs with their lethal side effects.
You might miss the non-stop feed of polarized viewppoints of Fox and CNN. You might miss Trumps tweets.
Would that make America great again, like it was in 1925?
Here's another spin. Provide every teacher with a gun that can only be unlocked with their fingerprint, that shoots a fast-acting paralyzing dart. Maybe three rounds.
Not enough room for everyone to be a hermit in the woods ... and you would need an AR-15 to stop bears and mountain lions. (Can you imagine many of our current snowflakes in such a situation?)
See my latest blog, "An Experiment" ...
No one needs an AR-15. The Bolt action .30-06 rifle has been handling bears and mountain lions fer many years, city boy.
Unless your first shot goesn't stop the grizzly ... in which case you become the trophy.
