Don’t Do as I Do ...

Barack Obama was recently interviewed by the BBC in which he said, "The danger I think is when the United States or any country thinks that we can simply impose [our] values on another country with a different history and a different culture," I, for one, think this statement is exquisitely ironic considering the fact that Obama feels no compunction about imposing his far left-leaning values, born of a different culture and history, on his own nation. You are standing in front of the train. Get on board. It is leaving the station.

A very lemming-like comment. And I thought Capt. Hargreaves (Ret) was an independent thinker. Alas!

Some values we might encourage the rest of the world to adopt(independent of their history and culture):

- decry terrorism and atrocities
- campaign for religious and personal freedoms
- promulgate a fair justice system
- encourage free enterprise
- strongly suggest that freedom of the press is a better option
- promote equal opportunity for all races, genders, and ethnicities
- impose restriction on corporate and political corruption
- denounce nuclear proliferation ... particularly to unstable nations
- etc.

Is this all so onerous? Or should we resign ouselves to the status quo?

Obama affirms these values every time he speaks.

Except when he says that we should not project our values on countries with different cultures and histories. Why should we decry the stoning to death a Muslim woman who goes to the market without the accompaniment of a male relative? Forsooth!

Can we afford to enforce American values on all of those Non-American countries.

Will you send your son (or grandson) off with a gun to prevent stonings and other cultural realities? Not me, coach.

I applaud your newfound sensitivity to global human pains, but such statements (decrying the realities of primitive societies) are ineffective, and possibly counter-productive. Everyone can't be advanced like us.

I think I would substitute the word "urge" for "enforce" as opposed to BHO who basically is saying "it's none of our business". His statement in Cairo that "Any world order that elevates one nation over another will fail" is so much egalitarian dreck that I think I will heave. Obama has once again shown himself to be chained to Marxist ideology. Since you recognize that there are such things as "primative" societies, I guess you also disagree with his holiness on this issue?
